The Blissetts - Latest Update

We've been busy toiling away improving some of our old songs, these being Destruction Day v2.0, American Empire, Nothing To Lose But Our Chains and Words Minus Action Equals Nothing. All I can say at this point is that the songs have much more power and provide much more of a kick up the arse. We've done a few covers, but hey, you already know what they are so I'm not gonna list them here. We've also worked on some new material, a song called 'The Death Of Freedom', a tune Arup came up with which has balls as big as beer barrels. I also have a few in the bag myself. So we're just knuckling down and getting on with it at the moment. (Posted by Paul 2/12/06)

Gigs - April 2007 Onwards

We're not likely to play live before April 2007. Arup is away on tour with his other band throughout January. We'll be getting ready to explode back onto the scene soon after Arups return. Anyone who fancies putting us on please get in touch asap as we expect to be fairly busy once we're up and running again. Also I'd like to say thanks to all the bands we've become mates with over the past year, Immoral, Past Caring and the Shanahan powered Mindplan. Thanks to Jason from Blaggers ITA who we shall be sharing many a beer with next summer! (Posted by Paul 2/12/06)

What We've Been Up To

With the new line up in place, and having taken two weeks off from reheasal for holidays, we will be back in action down at the reheasal room this week, getting ready to come out with all guns blazing in the new year. We have totally re-written Destruction Day and the initial reaction from you guys (to the mp3 I sent out to a few mailing list members) has been very enthusiastic and that shows that things are moving in the right direction and shaping up well for the future. We are currently bastardising American Empire as well as learning a few more covers to bolster our set until we finish the re-writing of some of the old songs and starting on the new stuff of which I have ideas for five new songs and Arup also has a bag full of ideas. I'd just like to say that having Mark and Arup in the band has given us a much needed kick up the arse, this is gonna be the best line up yet and hopefully one that will stay together for a long time.

A Word On Gigs

I have already had several texts and emails demanding to know when the next gig will be, all I can say to that is due to all the recent line up changes (the latest being Surj's departure), our original target of October just isn't going to happen. We have decided to write off the rest of 2006 gig wise, however, if we think we're good enough, we could fit in a short appearance somewhere before Xmas. We've had several offers of gigs for early 2007, we have accepted these and will post all details on this site and our myspace website as soon as they're confirmed. I have also begun planning a gig in Watford that will feature four other local bands as well as us. More on this later in the year.

Paul's Myspace Page

I've set up a myspace page where I shall be posting various rantings and blurbs about all kinds of stuff and all things Blissett, so check it out by clicking here. If any of you are already have a page on myspace, feel free to add me as a friend. (Posted by Paul 3/9/06)

New Line Up Confirmed

We've finally managed to get there at last, after many stop/starts and a shit load of phone calls and emails, we now have a remotely stable line up. We have some very experienced members on board and this can only help us grow as a band. We have started writing new material and have come up with some fantastic stuff. So far then, we have:

  • Paul - Vocals
  • Gaz - Drums
  • Arup - Guitar
  • Mark - Bass

We still plan to be playing live by the end of the year, we want to fit in a at least one gig before Christmas. So again I would like to say thanks to everyone who has stuck with us, when we play live again, trust me, we'll be worth the wait! (Posted by Paul 30/7/06)

Ian 'The Suit'

Myself and Gaz would like to say a massive thank you to my bro, Ian 'The Suit' who has helped us out far beyond the call of duty on both bass and lead guitar. If it wasn't for Ian offering his services, I'm sure we would have been fucked long ago. His assistance stretches back a fair way and we know he would help us again. We knew from the start that he would stand in as long as he was needed, but he made it clear that he had no desire to join the band 'full time' due to other commitments, and believe me, we tried!! He also came up with a fantastic bass bit for the tail end of the re-written Destruction Day, you'll hear it soon enough! All I can add is a big giant fuck off thank you! (Posted by Paul 30/7/06)

Paco Appeal

Anyone who knows me will know that Conflict were a big influence on me to get in a band, so I would like to use this opportunity to help them spread their message that Conflict's drummer, Paco, is in bad need of an operation and Conflict are trying to raise cash so that he can get it. For full details on Paco's condition and how you can help by making donations, sending letters of support etc... please visit the Conflict website or click here. Conflict also have several benefit gigs lined up, so check 'em out! (Posted by Paul 30/7/06)

The Blissetts World-Wide

A big hello to our boy Augus in Jakarta, Indonesia. Augus found us on the internet and is heading up the Indonesian wing of The Blissetts massive. His band are called The Beer Tubes. (Posted by Paul 30/7/06)

'The Harder, The Better' Vol 11 Reviewed Online

There is a review of the compilation CD that The Blissetts appeared on, 'The Harder, The Better' Vol 11, on the www.punk4life.co.uk website for anyone that is interested. We feel that the review came out quite well in our favour considering the amount of hardcore bands on the CD. Please note that we have sold out of the CD and we don't plan to get anymore in unless there is significant interest, If you still want to hear the track 'Destruction Day' please go to our downloads page or visit our myspace site. The CD is still available online from Turkey Vulture Records. 'Destruction Day' is also being played on the Turkey Vulture online jukebox, so there you go, plenty of ways to check the song out if you hav'nt already, 'cos this version ain't gonna be around for ever! New Guitarist Joins (Again!)

We have finally recruited the right man for the job of The Blissetts guitarist. His name is Surj and he joined the band on Thursday. Surj impressed myself and Gaz ( Ian 'The Suit' is on holiday at the mo) as he has the right attitude and dedication as well as the ability to help us get The Blissetts alive and kicking and back onto the gigging circuit where we belong. We have even started writing some brand new material with a hope to having a set ready for gigging by late September/early October. We are also currently looking at getting in a second guitarist to help further our cause, interested? then click here to email us. (Posted by Paul 8/7/06)

White Van Man Leaves To Make A Delivery

Yes it's true, the White Van Man, a.k.a David, has left the band due to being unable to commit himself to The Blissetts cause. He has been having problems with work commitments and thought it was best to hand in his notice now rather than waste anymore of the bands time. We are currently chasing up a few new guitarists and hope to find one soon. If anyone fancies having a go then email us. (Posted by Paul 27/6/06)

New Guitarist Joins

Our search is over as far as looking for a new guitarist is concerned. We have recruited White Van Man who is now busy learning our material and giving it the necessary bollocks it deserves. We've kept three of our old tunes which have been re-written bass and drum wise, so we are now waiting for the man with the van to add his touch. More details and a biog for the Van Man will appear soon. (Posted by Paul 29/5/06)

The Blissetts Are Now At MySpace

We now have a page at www.myspace.com/theblissetts for all you community based pc bods out there. The myspace site will contain the basic info on the band, gigs etc...It's been up for a week and is doing well, however it isn't a replacement for this website, we are limited as to what we can put on myspace but that isn't the case with this (the official) website. We have posted some tracks for your listening pleasure there too, they are Destruction Day and the two unreleased tracks from last years Sanctuary recording session, American Empire and My Pet Goat (George W. megamix). People outside of the band havn't heard these versions so have a listen. These are the last two Blissetts originals to feature previous members Dave and Bass Rimmer. So check out the site and sign up to become our friends! (Posted by Paul 29/5/06)

Latest Blissetts Update

Myself and Gaz have been toiling away in our basement hideaway, along with Ian who has been chipping in some fantastic bass lines and the odd bit of guitar. We have been re-writing two of our old songs which now sound much more solid, varied and pack one hell of a punch! and we havn't even sorted the guitar yet! After conversations with several Blissetts fanatics, I found Destruction Day and Nothing To Lose (But Our Chains) to be the biggest live favourites, so these are the ones we are re-writing. The rest of our material will consist of brand new stuff and maybe the odd cover as well as the usual vocal onslaught. Overall, we just want to be a lot more creative and experimental in our approach. Hopefully we can get a new downloadable track on this website fairly soon. (Posted by Paul 6/5/06)

In a previous post I mentioned that we planned to play live again by mid to late summer, this is still the plan and well within our grasp providing we can get a guitarist sorted fairly soon. We have a couple of people to audition over the next few weeks. We shall then be tapping up everybody for gigs aplenty. Anybody who fancies auditioning, please contact me by clicking here. 'The Harder, The Better' Vol 11 - Only A few Left

I have about three copies left and I expect these to go fairly soon. I'll ship in another box from Turkey Vulture Records, but this may take some time so If you want one fairly soon then drop me an email and I'll save you one. We have been asked If we would like to appear on the next CD, Vol 12, but due to the upheaval within the band recently I doubt we could get the new stuff recorded in time. (Posted by Paul 6/5/06)

The Blissetts - We 'Aint Goin' Nowhere!

I have met up with several people and we're gonna see how it goes from here. The sound should be a lot more varied as we want to add a bit of ska to our punk sound, something I was never able to do with the previous incarnation of the band. We will re-write some of the old songs to give 'em more of an edge and vary the style a lot more. A majority of the material will be new. Gigs are a long way off yet, but playing live from mid to late summer isn't impossible, it's just up to us to put the work in. Meanwhile, if anyone can play the trumpet, get in touch now as this would add a lot more perspective to what we want to do. (Posted by Paul 26/3/06)

End Of The Road For The Blissetts??

On Monday 13th March, Dave and Craig quit the band leaving me and Gaz as the sole surviving Blissetts. All I will say on the subject is that it could have been handled with a damn sight more professionalism and that the ins and outs of it are not important anymore and I no longer wish to talk about it.

It's Time To Move On

I certainly haven't ruled out getting in new members, however, I have taken up post of vocalist with another Watford band, more on that soon. So The Blissetts may or may not happen again, as I've learned from life, nothing is 100% certain.

The Compilation CD (available from April 1st)

The Blissetts are still set to be included on the USA compilation 'The Harder, The Better' Vol 11, It's due for release on April 1st and I'll post full details of how to get the CD when I receive the 1st batch. (Posted by Paul 18/3/06)

This Website

This site will stay up for the time being (seeing as I've just paid for another years hosting!) as I'm currently in the final stages of completing it for a college course that I'm doing on web design. Feel free to check back and stay in touch!

Thanks

All that 's left for me to say is thanks to Dave and Craig. Boys, remember it for the fun we had and not the way it went pear shaped. Also a very big thank you to everyone that has phoned, texted and emailed us to show their support over the last few days.

On your case, in your face, The Blissetts have left the house (if only for the time being)

Line Up Confirmed For Compilation

The line up has been confirmed (see advert at the top of the page for the full list of bands) for the forthcoming Turkey Vulture Records U.S. compilation CD 'The Harder, The Better' Vol 11.

Our track 'Destruction Day' is set for inclusion and we thought that it was appropriate to submit 'Destruction Day' as the compilation will be raising money for the good folk of New Orleans (more about that further down the page). As anyone who has heard the track knows that it is about the effects of global warming and the devastation mankind has caused to our planet, and to think that there are people out there who still think global warming doesn't exist!

The CD will be available from us as well as from Turkey Vulture Records own website which you can find by clicking here as well as from the other bands on the compilation and from online record stores, we will post more information as soon as we get it. (Posted by Paul 7/2/06)

New Material In The Pipeline

We have retired to our den of anarchy to write new material as we don't have any more gigs lined up at the moment. If you are reading this and you can offer us a gig, get in touch now! Click here to email us and we'll see what we can do.

As far as new material goes, we have one brand new song on the go, we are taking our time over it as it's gonna be a good one and we don't want to cock it up by rushing it. We have also began re-writing 'My Pet Goat', it's gonna be radically different from the old version which we played for the very last time in Barnet last month. (Posted by Paul 7/2/06)

Cheers!

Thanks to everyone who made the trip to Barnet to see us on Friday, we had a fantastic time, there was moshing aplenty and we had a decent sound! If anyone has any photos, send 'em in and I'll stick 'em up on the images page, same goes for if you want to send in a review. No thanks however, to the wanker traffic wardens.
